Web design · Raleigh, NC

Web design in Raleigh, built to bring in customers.

Raleigh Tech Lab is a small web studio in Raleigh building fast, mobile-first websites for local businesses: restaurants, dental offices, contractors, salons, gyms and shops. Most sites launch in two to four weeks, and you own everything.

What we found

Most North Carolina business websites are slow on phones.

575
NC small-business websites tested
31%
scored Poor on mobile speed
9%
reached Google's Good range (90+)
45%
had no business markup

A slow mobile site loses visitors before it even loads. Missing business markup means Google and AI assistants have to guess your hours, location and services instead of reading them.

How we measured: our own audit tool ran Google PageSpeed Insights (Lighthouse, mobile) and a schema.org business-markup check on 575 websites of North Carolina small businesses (restaurants, cafés, dental offices, gyms, trades and shops) found through public business listings, September–October 2026. Google rates a score of 90+ as Good and under 50 as Poor. Totals only; no business is named.

What it takes

What a Raleigh small-business website needs.

Looking good is the easy part. These are the things that decide whether a visitor calls, books or leaves.

Speed

Fast on a phone

Google measures how quickly your page loads on a mobile connection and wants the main content on screen within 2.5 seconds. We build for that, not just for a desktop demo.

Local search

Matches your Google profile

Your name, address, phone and hours should match your Google Business Profile exactly. Local search and Maps rely on that consistency.

Action

Lets customers act

Tap-to-call, a map, and booking or quote forms so customers can reach you at any hour, not only during business hours.

Search & AI

Says who you are

Structured business markup tells Google and AI assistants your business type, hours and services. 45% of the sites we tested had none.

Ownership

Easy to run, yours to keep

Your site, your domain, your accounts. Plain-English updates and a full handover at the end.

Your trade

Built around your business

A restaurant needs a readable menu and reservations; a dental office needs appointment requests and insurance info.

FAQ

Questions Raleigh businesses ask.

What should a small business website in Raleigh include?

At minimum: your services, a phone number customers can tap to call, your address and hours matching your Google Business Profile, and a layout that's fast on a phone. If customers book or ask for quotes, add an online form or booking so they can act at any hour. Raleigh Tech Lab's Starter Site covers the basics, and the Business Site + Booking package adds online booking.

Will a new website help my business show up on Google Maps?

Map results come mainly from your Google Business Profile, not your website alone. A website still helps: Google cross-checks the name, address, phone number and hours on your site against your profile, and structured business markup makes those details easy to read. Raleigh Tech Lab builds both into the sites it makes.

Can you fix my current website instead of replacing it?

Sometimes. On the free discovery call, Raleigh Tech Lab looks at where your site is now: how it scores on Google's mobile speed test, whether customers can call or book easily, and what's missing. If your current site can be fixed and a rebuild isn't worth it, we'll tell you that plainly.

What does Google's mobile speed score mean?

It's the performance score from Google's PageSpeed Insights, from 0 to 100, measured on a simulated phone. A score of 90 or above is rated Good and below 50 is Poor. In our tests of 575 North Carolina small-business websites, 31% scored Poor and only 9% reached Good.
